On the Other Side of the Valley of Suffering

What a terrible day that was for Job! In one day a mighty wind caused the death of all his children. On that day, Job lost it all, but the pain did not stop there. That day was just the beginning of more terrible days to come. Job was now sick, with a sickness that took over every inch of his body. His own wife, the one that was supposed to be his helper; the only survival in the family; mocked and encouraged Job to curse God and die! His own friends could not say a word to him for seven days and seven nights “…because they saw how great his suffering was.” (Job 2: 13) Have you ever been in a situation in life where you despise your very existence? Job did! “Job opened his mouth and cursed the day of his birth.” (Job 3:1)

Thirty four agonizing Chapters went by with three of Job’s friends giving senseless reasons and explanation for his pain. Sometimes it is difficult to distinguish what is more painful; the original cause of the pain or the worthless judgments of the ones we love. But then God spoke, and gave Job the same treasures that are waiting for many of us on the other side of the valley of suffering.

  • The deep revelation of the greatness of God and how small we really are.  (Job 38/39/40/41/42)
  • Knowing our Father in a more intimate and rich way, not by what others say, but by what God Himself revealed of Him to us. (Job 42:5)
  • We will experience true repentance for our own acts, our false images of ourselves and our wrong judgments of why God does what He does. We will gain acceptance and trust in God’s doing even when we are unable to understand. (Job 42:6)
  • God will deal with those that spoke wrongly on His behave and in our tribulations were of ungodly wisdom. God will redeem us. (Job 42:7-9)
  • We will develop a heart that will not keep record of the wrong that was done against us; a heart ready to forgive. (Job 42:10)
  • We will enjoy a double blessing on this age and on this dimension of life. The blessings are coming from the North, from the South, from the East and from the West! (Job 42:10)
  • We will find comfort as God send out his arms of love. You may be alone in your suffering now, with no spouse or a friend to console your soul, but our comfort is coming! (Job 42:11)

“Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.” I Peter 4:12-13
