Still Today God Has Not Forgotten You

January 17, 2011

3 Reuben, you are my firstborn,
my might, the first sign of my strength,
excelling in honor, excelling in power.
4 Turbulent as the waters, you will no longer excel,
for you went up onto your father’s bed,
onto my couch and defiled it.

5 “Simeon and Levi are brothers—
their swords are weapons of violence.
6 Let me not enter their council,
let me not join their assembly,
for they have killed men in their anger
and hamstrung oxen as they pleased.
7 Cursed be their anger, so fierce,
   and their fury, so cruel!
I will scatter them in Jacob
and disperse them in Israel.” (Genesis 49:3-7)

Jacob was getting ready to die! His twelve sons stood before him, awaiting their blessing that would define their lives and the words from a mighty man of God that would carry them through. I can only imagine the anointing in that place; I can only imagine the anticipation of these men. But in the midst of Jacob’s blessing, he was not afraid to expose some of the family’s sins. Reuben slept with one of his wives and Simeon and Levi were angry murders.

What are your issues? What are the issues in your family? Do you feel ashamed of your family’s history? Can anybody be used by God in your family? Can you be used by God with all you have done?

In this chosen family; we saw sexual immorality, lies, cowardly behaviors, murders, nasty betrayals, jealousy, family divisions and much more. But, in all, this was a chosen family that marked the beginning of the great nation of Israel. However, above all, there was and is a divine purpose for this nation that was not compromised because of their mess. Still today, God has not forgotten Israel. Still today God has not forgotten you.
