Deal With It!

We must do three specific things in our journey towards our own Promise Land; we must trust God, obey HIM and move with His glory. That is our part of the deal and surely God will do the other ninety nine percent of the job. It is our job to trust God and move forward in faith…God will do the rest! What we don’t deal with today will, for sure, come back to haunt us later.

“‘But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land, those you allow to remain will become barbs in your eyes and thorns in your sides. They will give you trouble in the land where you will live. And then I will do to you what I plan to do to them.’”

(Numbers 33:55-56)

The moment is finally here; time to enter the, long awaiting, promised land. Many of us, prophetically speaking, find ourselves at that very point in our lives where we are about to be a part of something amazing. What I want to point-out is that if we do not deal with those dark areas in our lives soon enough, they will come back to haunt us.

Obviously, it was by the power of God that the children of Israel were to have a chance to drive the inhabitants out. Many of these inhabitants were also giants; they were intelligent, sophisticated, skillful soldiers, and very powerful people. In the natural, the children of Israel did not have a chance. However, God commanded the children of Israel to drive them out. So, what does this means? If we don’t have the power to conquer the land, yet we depend on God to give us victory; then the conquering is up to God; right?

We can easily become lazy Christians where we just sit back and expect God to do it all; even as He is the one with the power, our job is for our hearts to be in the right place. The children of Israel needed to have a made-up heart that these inhabitants were coming out of the Promise Land one way or another.

Walking in fear and not facing our giants will provide us with devastating consequences. The Bible compared these consequences with having a fishhook (Barbs) in our eyes and thorns in our sides; it clearly states that it will give us trouble. Perhaps the most devastating consequence is found in verse fifty-six: “‘And then I will do to you what I plan to do to them.’ “

  1. Like the people who were preparing to cross the Jordan, it is our job to trust God and move forward in faith and take as our possession the Promised Land. God has already given them victory over a people who had earlier seduced the old generation into idolatry. While they are camping in the plains of Moab, before entering into the land, Moses, commanded by God, writes an account of where they have been. From place to place, every stop is chronicled, that the people would remember the way. It is a good exercise to practice, recording our own history. Once in a while, we need to stop and camp out in the plains of Moab, and remember… Remember God’s faithfulness and provision, remember God’s power manifested in our lives. Where ever you are on your journey, today take a moment to stop, camp out, and remember.
