The True Secret for Effective Leadership Part 2

Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, came to bring Moses’ wife and children to Moses after the children of Israel crossed the red sea and God freed them from the slavery in Egypt. Very quickly, Jethro saw something that moved him in such a way that he decided to approach Moses and talk to him about it face-to-face. Jethro saw Moses doing too, much work; like many leaders today; every problem was brought before Moses for him to decide what the wisdom of God was in these matters. For a nation of over three million people, no doubt that Moses was working himself directly into a heart attack or a major burn-out. Jethro gave Moses the following advice:

21 But select capable men from all the people—men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain—and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens. 22 Have them serve as judges for the people at all times, but have them bring every difficult case to you; the simple cases they can decide themselves. That will make your load lighter, because they will share it with you. 23 If you do this and God so commands, you will be able to stand the strain, and all these people will go home satisfied.’24 Moses listened to his father-in-law and did everything he said. 25 He chose capable men from all Israel and made them leaders of the people, officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens. 26 They served as judges for the people at all times. The difficult cases they brought to Moses, but the simple ones they decided themselves.27 Then Moses sent his father-in-law on his way, and Jethro returned to his own country.” (Exodus 18:21-27) (NIV)

This sounded like a great advice; the characteristics of these men are the characteristics that we would like to have in any men working for and with us in ministry… right? They were to have the following characteristics:

  1. Capable men
  2. Men who fear God
  3. Trustworthy
  4. Men who hate dishonest gain

It seems like Moses had the help that he needed; it seems like now he was ready to go; it seems like everything was in place. But, in all these wonderful qualities; there was no mention of one key ingredient. You can have all these wonderful qualities with the people around you, but if you don’t have this one thing, you are setting yourself up for failure.

The True Secret for Effective Leadership Part 1

The time for Rambo leaders is over; if we truly want to be effective in the Lord we must have a group of people united. The idea that we are doing well while our neighborhood’s quality of life continues to rapidly decay, is absurd. We have become experts in putting up Sunday Morning Shows, but the world sees very little difference between the way they behave and us. Ministries that are focus on one men or woman and are not actively making disciples are soon to be extinct. Today, not only is prayer itself a challenge, but the power of agreement is almost unfound. We want to be and do so much, but neglect who we are supposed to be and whom we are supposed to represent. Like the world, we fall apart in moments of crisis. With this series, I am going to address the leadership in the church. I say “the church” (one church) because there is only one church.

There is a great deal of power available to us, but I am afraid that our personal agendas and pride continues to increasingly get in the way of accessing that kind of power. It is easy to find talented people in the Body of Christ; people that can preach, write songs, hold a pretty decent tune, teach the Word, prophesy, etc. but it is almost impossible to find a leader that is effectively walking in unity. They are surrounded by people, but they are not really operating in unity; it seems like they are together, the numbers look good, but the true power of God is not there. The Bible tells us in Matthew 18:19

“19 Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.”

Notice the amazing power of agreement here! The word “agreement” here means: “to be harmonious:” In other words…to be in harmony. The word “done” here means: “to create, to fashion.” So, when we stand in harmony with one another we open the doors of heaven and prepare the atmosphere for God to create and fashion what we are asking for. The challenge is that with more than two thousand Christian denominations and with all the divisions that we have, even amongst local churches, harmony is nowhere to be found. What we have is constant strife and people devouring each other.

So what does leadership have to do with anything?

A Word for the United States

Stop asking for more of ME; as if you are waiting for me to manifest my glory! For you have had all of me since the day I saved you. Did I not give my Son for your sins? Did I not fill you with my Spirit? Did I not surround you by my angels? For it is time today for you to look at yourself. It is not for you to ask more of me at this hour; it is for you to give me more of you. For my salvation and my Word must find its way in your daily life, in your economy, in your education, in your government and in your politics. I am the Lord! You are rejecting me and all that I represent.

Close to ten years ago you turned to me for a week, but your own leaders encouraged you to go back to your way of live, to your routines and to your consumerist ways. Very proudly you shouted at your enemy: “You will not bring us down.” You got a hold of your patriotism as you sang that you were “proud to be an American where at least I know I am free…” Your leaders, your own leaders, even those who claimed to follow me, encouraged you to go back to the malls, to buy cars and to travel. That was a time of repentance, of fasting; a time of prayer and a time to make clear who the God of your nation is. But you rejected me again and continue to do so today. Leaders took credit for keeping the nation safe from another attack and received as the saviors. But I did not give you your current leader as your savior, but as one that will carry-out some of the reaping that you have been sowing for decades.

You call yourself the “United Stated,” but you are divided by the color of your skin today more than ever; for the spirit of racism continues to be worshiped and continues to be embraced. False Prophets with their dishonest gains continue to feed, even today, the spirit of racism. You keep holding on to your anger and to your un-forgiveness and you continue in holding on to your pride and arrogance. One is the cause of your social devastation, the other is bringing forth great judgment upon your own people because you refuse to forgive from your heart and embrace the true freedom that I have for you.

You were declared free politically, but you still have chains strapped to your heart. Can I not do everything I want in you? Can they really stop me from doing what I want in you? For I brought you out of your Egypt, I chose you to face great pain, I molded you in great hardship; you surely became familiar with overwhelming afflictions. I did it to raise you up, to share my holiness with you, for you to see my face and to send you out as a powerful spiritual liberator. Who told you to worship the victim mentality? Who told you to worship the government of a nation who hates me? I am your Savior and I am your Banner; but you have rejected me and gone astray after other gods. You were the moral compass of this nation, but you have become detestable before my eyes.

Does he continue to be your savior? Is he your anointed one? The one received as your president? Republicans, Conservatives, Tea Party members and Independents have very little good to say about this man. But who are you? Are you in a position to judge the failure of this leader? No, for you have a form of godliness, but you deny my power. You are full of empty religion and many of you are ashamed of declaring my Word. You have become people pleasers and boldness is no longer found on your lips. You look for the middle in your political spectrum and your power and political aspirations have become the center of your drive for positions. You have turned to radio personalities that do not carry my love and my truth; they have become agitators and worthless worshippers of themselves. I am the answer, the only answer and no one stands before me. Your President is not wrong for apologizing for America’s previous sins around the world; your President is wrong for his hypocrisy and for not bringing America to Repentance before me. For your President seeks the favor of men; but rejects my power also. Did I not say?

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Is America exempt from having to humble herself before Me? Is her path perfect? Is America praying? How many are praying in their secret places? How many gather to pray as they gather faithfully to celebrate their freedom in night clubs, sports events and “happy hours.” The gods of entertainment have distracted you and turned you away from seeking me. How can you turn from your wicked ways? For wickedness has become acceptable among you; you have said yes to fornication, to homosexuality, to greed and to all the gods seduction. T.V. talk-show hosts are your religious compass and you no longer search my Word to confirm what these famous fools are declaring. These are Baals of this day that are leading this nation into the flames of hell. You sit back and watch on T.V. the destructions of families and their mess placed on display for all to watch and you find it funny…you call that entertainment! Like the days of the Coliseums and what entertained that violent generation, you sit back and laugh and enjoy the very things that break my heart.

Where are my people? Consumed with having, with a prosperity message that is not of me; it is not the prosperity that I have for you. For I desire to prosper you as your soul prospers, so your riches don’t be the very same thing that will bring harm upon you. My church has become high class Membership Clubs, but my people don’t know Me and can care less to know one another. Your leaders have exchanged my anointing for degrees and the worthless ways of the world. America, you are well-spoken in many of your pulpits, you know how to put a sermon together and how to hype the people, but where is my power? Where is my anointing that destroys the yoke and makes people free? My church is not holy and has no desire for holiness and I am the One now waiting on you:

20Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.  21To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.  22He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.” (Revelations 3:20-22

Moving According to God’s Glory

February 9, 2011

15 On the day the tabernacle, the Tent of the Testimony, was set up, the cloud covered it. From evening till morning the cloud above the tabernacle looked like fire. 16 That is how it continued to be; the cloud covered it, and at night it looked like fire. 17 Whenever the cloud lifted from above the Tent, the Israelites set out; wherever the cloud settled, the Israelites encamped.”

How easy it is for many of us to move away from the cloud of God’s glory. Many of us leave our hometowns, jobs and even our family and friends just because they offer a little more money on the other side of the bridge. Many of us take promotions; even engage in relationships…all without the blessing of God’s glory.

The Tabernacle was the place where God manifested His glory; the children of Israel marched from one place to the other around this tabernacle. The tabernacle itself was not a glorious construction compared to the buildings of other cities. It was not an impressive place; however, every aspect of the Tabernacle pointed directly at Jesus. The Tabernacle itself was not the deal; it was the glory of God that made it special.

We must develop a life addicted to God’s glory, where His glory is centered. We must stay or go according to His glory and not circumstances. The glory of God is priceless, the glory of God is power, the glory of God is love, provision, victory; it is the blessing needed and much, much more! The glory doesn’t follow you, but you follow the glory.  That is the order; the way to go.

As we continue to read the end of Numbers, chapter 9, we notice that sometimes the cloud will move in a day or in months. It was not a specific time frame; it was all in God’s will. We never really know when the next move is going to be, however, we do know when it is time to move.

The Priestly Blessing

February 8

22 The LORD said to Moses, 23 ‘Tell Aaron and his sons, ‘This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them:

24The LORD bless you
   and keep you;
25 the LORD make his face shine on you
   and be gracious to you;
26 the LORD turn his face toward you
   and give you peace.”

 (Numbers 6:22-26) (NIV)

Israel is again on the move and on their way to the Promise Land. The Tabernacle was completed exactly the way God instructed its construction and all of the Levites instructions concerning their service as Levites were also clearly, and with great detail, established by God. The book of numbers records the story of the remaining thirty nine years of the Israelites in the desert.
In these verses, we see what is known as “The Priestly Blessing.” These are the words used by many ministers around the world as they end their Church Services. Beloved, this is the heart of God towards us. Today, I invite you to pray this prayer over your life and over the life of your family and love ones. This prayer is in the center of God’s will for us; He wants to:
1.    Bless us
2.    Keep us (It is not His desire to eliminate us!)
3.    The Lord wants His face to shine upon on us and be gracious to us…that is favor!
4.     The Lord wants to look at us; that speaks to me about His desire to listen to our prayers.
5.    The Lord wants to give us peace…His peace, the one that goes above any circumstance we may be facing; the one that goes above storms!

God is Indeed the Only Answer

“ 3 ‘If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands, 4 I will send you rain in its season, and the ground will yield its crops and the trees their fruit. 5 Your threshing will continue until grape harvest and the grape harvest will continue until planting, and you will eat all the food you want and live in safety in your land.  6 “‘I will grant peace in the land, and you will lie down and no one will make you afraid. I will remove wild beasts from the land, and the sword will not pass through your country. 7 You will pursue your enemies, and they will fall by the sword before you. 8 Five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand, and your enemies will fall by the sword before you.

9 “‘I will look on you with favor and make you fruitful and increase your numbers, and I will keep my covenant with you. 10 You will still be eating last year’s harvest when you will have to move it out to make room for the new. 11 I will put my dwelling place among you, and I will not abhor you. 12 I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people. 13 I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt so that you would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians; I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to walk with heads held high.” (Leviticus 26:3-13) (NIV)

Leviticus 26 shows us the only two paths available for mankind. Those paths are as real today as they were then. The list of the consequences for obeying God is short, sweet and very powerful. The list for disobeying God is long and horrifying. It makes you wonder why so many of us rather disobey God and go after evil. Evil has a way of presenting itself in such an appealing way, but will always leave us empty, destroyed and with the smell of death all around us. In the book of Deuteronomy 30:19 God once again reminded us of these two paths and made a statement that it still at the heart of the human condition; it is indeed our choice!

“19 This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life…”

I am not advocating for us to ignore the political system all together, politics does affect us. However, it amazes me how much emphasis and hope we place in our political system, the government and our certain party as the way of change for the better. In the process, we continue to ignore God, his way of life, holiness and His power to bring forth all that we need and more. In the process of placing our trust in manmade institutions and the idols of this day, we look more and more like a nation that is suffering the consequences of disobedience and less and less like a nation that is under God.

God and only God can cause nature to cooperate with us; to bring us the rain that is needed and to cause the fruit of our labor to multiply beyond what science can do. God is the answer in our war against terrorism; God can grant us peace and supernatural victories in times of war; God can surely take away our fears and make us a people that walk with assurance and trust in God as He removes the beasts of crime, injustice and violence away from our land. God is indeed the only answer!

“Me quiere, no me quiere; me quiere, no me quiere; me quiere, no me quiere…”
