Basic Statistics on Assaults Against Women

According to: http://www.now.org/issues/violence/stats.html

MURDER

In 2005, 1,181 women were murdered by an intimate partner.1 That’s an average of three women every day. Of all the women murdered in the U.S., about one-third were killed by an intimate partner.2

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE (Intimate Partner Violence or Battering)

Domestic violence can be defined as a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over an intimate partner.3According to the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, women experience about 4.8 million intimate partner-related physical assaults and rapes every year.4 Less than 20 percent of battered women sought medical treatment following an injury.5

SEXUAL VIOLENCE

According to the National Crime Victimization Survey, which includes crimes that were notreported to the police, 232,960 women in the U.S. were raped or sexually assaulted in 2006. That’s more than 600 women every day.6 Other estimates, such as those generated by the FBI, are much lower because they rely on data from law enforcement agencies. A significant number of crimes are never even reported for reasons that include the victim’s feeling that nothing can/will be done and the personal nature of the incident.7

RAPE STATISTICS FACT SHEET FOR ADULTS

· 78 women are being raped each hour!
· One out of three women will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime.
· The risk of rape is four times higher for women aged 16-24 than for any other age group
· Nine out ten rapes are never reported.
· An accused rapist is more likely to be acquitted than a person charged with any other violent crime.
· Statistically most rapists are repeat offenders.
· Over 50% of all rapes occur in a residence, often the victim’s own.
· Women who are assaulted need help and counseling to talk about the experience. “Forgetting about it” can lead to even more problems for the victim.
· Most rapists are not murderers. Of the women who chose to resist an attacker fewer than 9% sustain injuries more than a cut or a bruise.
· All women may be rape victims – age, race, socioeconomic status, appearance, and lifestyle are not deciding factors.
· In one study, 25% of the women assaulted were responding to requests for help by the assailant. Friendly, helpful women are the most vulnerable to an attack.
· The vast majority of sexual assaults are date and / or acquaintance rape (80-90%) as oppose to stranger rape.
· Every 9 seconds a woman is physically abused by a male who is either a spouse or boyfriend.

RAPE FACT SHEET FOR ADOLESCENTS

· Annually 1 to 1.5 million adolescent girls are raped in the U.S..
· 33% of the girls raped reported more than one assault.
· Statistics suggest only 5% of adolescent rapes are reported.
· Adolescent sexual assault occurs primarily within the context of a date.
· In a study for High School girls, they asked why girls gave in to the boy’s request for sex. The number one reason was because the girls didn’t know how to say “no” without hurting the boy’s feelings.
· Verbal pressure is the most common force used against adolescents.
· Most offenders were the same age as their victims.
·In approximately 80% of attempted rape cases, girls with any self-defense training avoided sexual contact.

Breaking Dawn

This is not coming out of a self-belief of how perfect I am; to the contrary, it is coming out of an ever-growing understanding of how imperfect and miserable I am without God. My imperfections are the source of this urgency in my spirit to write these words. If by now we have not received the revelation of how messed up we are; we have either not lived enough or are suffering from a massive condition called, denial. Because of such conditions, the Bible encourages us inProverbs 4:23to:

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

“Above all else;” that means that there is nothing more important to a Christian than to guard the heart; why? Because every action flows from it! “Twilight” is a series that many know; the latter movie came out recently. “Breaking Dawn” by now is probably the number one movie in America and perhaps in the world. If you are not a Christian, I am not talking to you; you are sincere in what you believe and I must at least respect you for that. This article is directed to people that call themselves Christians but are out there buying these books and watching these kinds of movies. You are either ignorant to what you are doing, rebellious or one more hypocrite that sits in church on Sundays. There are only two agendas to follow; one is evil and the other one Godly. Every day we must make a decision, which one will we support with our time, our finances, resources and personal advertisement.

Before I go any further, we must understand the difference between struggling with sin and giving our hearts to the worship of other gods. David struggled with sin and lost his battles against the desires of his flesh in many occasions as recorded in Scripture. However, we read in1 Samuel 13:13-14

13 “You have done a foolish thing,’ Samuel said. ‘You have not kept the command the LORD your God gave you; if you had, he would have established your kingdom over Israel for all time. 14 But now your kingdom will not endure; the LORD has sought out a man after his own heart and appointed him ruler of his people, because you have not kept the LORD’s command.”

The man that the Scripture is referring to as “a man after his own heart” is King David. The man that did “foolish things” is King Saul. However, if one studies the Scripture he/she will quickly notice that both, David and Saul sinned before the Lord; so what is the difference here? One had a heart after God even as he struggled with his own flesh (David.) The other turned his heart away from God and worshiped himself; Saul became an enemy of God and everything that represented God. So the question is, can we sin and still have a heart after God? Absolutely! It is a knowing, deep inside that we belong to God, it is a deep desire to please our Heavenly Daddy. When we are in sin, it is not business as usual, we feel the conviction, we feel the misery and we are quick to fix things before the Lord. A heart after self or after other worthless idols is a heart where God is not the center and where God’s Word is not the final Word. This is a heart with perhaps a form of Godliness, but as soon as God’s ways get in conflict with its personal desires, we chose and even justify our own selfish and misguided ways. That is the difference between Saul and David; that is the difference between a heart after God and a heart after idols.

Why are we as Christians supporting this garbage? This is the story of a young girl who decided to go after a demon. She gave her soul to a life void from God. The problem that I have with this, and many other movies, is that there is no clear definition of what is good and what is evil. There is a distortion of the truth of God; there is a glorification and a glamorous presentation of evil. Romans 6:23tell us that “…the wages of sin is death…” I don’t necessarily have a problem with a movie presenting evil, I don’t have a problem with a movie that is not necessarily mentioning or not mentioning God; but I do have a problem with a movie where evil is presented as good and where evil overcomes good. “…the wages of sin is death,” the end-result of giving your soul to a demon is death; so why are we glorifying and idolizing death? That is what vampires represent, a life void from God, a person with no soul. The Bible tells us inActs 15:29,

“You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things.”

My fellow Christian, in case you have not noticed, this is a New Testament Scripture. Drinking blood is out there with sexual immorality! Nevertheless, we go to watch a vampire movie?

The devil is doing a great job in presenting evil to our society in a very friendly way. He is doing a great job in stealing the worship that belongs only to God. When you see young girls with posters of the “Twilight” movies, screaming and going crazy over these characters; beloved those are acts of worship. It is not only sin; you are now giving your heart and actually opening doors for your heart to be infected by all kinds of evil spirits. This is not the beginning of a new (Breaking Dawn), a beautiful sunrise; this is indeed a very dark hour.Isaiah 5:20tells us:

20 Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.”

A Song and A Prayer for My New Family

I am so thankful to God for what He is doing in my life! This video took place during our wedding; I did not sing at my best, but I felt God’s presence and I declare this prayer to be prophetic for the Casianos as we come together as a new family! I have so much to look forward to!

In the Center of a Life Filled With Misery

He sat in the corner, bleeding profusely from his nose. An expression of hurt and hopelessness consumed his eyes; an eye void of the tiger. His dreams, drained by the cruelty of life and failure, could no longer be perceived. The bell rang of a new day once again; more blows…jab, cross, jab, uppercut; with an absence of mercy. He was great, fast and dangerous. Yet, now he seems slow and unable to escape the speed of bad reputation and shame. Is it over? Are they going to stop this fight? His mind wanders to unfathomable ends, each thought filled with depression. Working on his cuts, the corner discusses the fighter. They see the swollen eyes and bruised ribs. The fighter stares at nothing, inhaling and exhaling pain. The corner yells with voices of encouragement, but with no noticeable effect.

“Don’t stop the fight,” the fighter said: not because he wanted to win, but because he wanted to die. The corner sat back and watched…jab, hook, cross, cross; the assault continues! “He is not even trying; he is not even keeping his hands up.” Jab to the face, cross to the face, devastating left hook to the body and hook to the face and the fighter is down.  The blows of tragedy, the combinations of failure and the humiliation of personal sin are just too much for this fighter… the fighter is down. 1, 2, 3… he is seriously hurt! The fighter thought about his lost country and the great battles of the past, but that did not bring him back. He thought about his accomplishments, his calling, but his legs would not respond. By instinct he tries to get up with desperation! By the thought of his children the fighter increased his affords to get up, but his legs were too weak; his vision was affected by the dizziness of a life without purpose. 4, 5, 6… everybody stood, some are rejoiced, some were surprised, others were cheerless and for some, it was just another knockout; nothing personal, no emotional connection.

But out of the ashes of glory days that are now gone, in the center of a life filled with misery, a voice declared in heaven, a voice that rumbled the earth with thunderous strength and fearful imagination with the sound that resonated within every muscle and bone: “I am not done with you…look at the cross and rejoice, for the joy of the Lord is the strength that is needed to rise up.” The fighter placed his eyes on the mountains that surrounded the stadium of life’s battles. Salvation is coming…salvation is coming…my salvation is coming; it is coming from the mountains!!!!! The Lord of lords, the Warrior of all warriors is coming!!!!!

The fighter now stands; only scars remaining…the bell of hope rings with the sound of many waters. Hold that white towel, you who mocked me with the cruelty of your arrogant tongue. You came upon my corner as my counsel, yet time proved your deceit! Yes, I step into my future knowing Who fights my battles. With the power for the overcoming, I step into tomorrow joyful for what I have today!
