“This Day Will Come” by Kelly Fowlkes Anderson

Morning kissed me
gently wiped away my tears
and took me by the hand.
I arose from my childhood bed.
My legs were unsteady
as if they didn’t want to carry me forward.
I looked into morning’s eyes
and there stood confidence and strength
waiting to adorn me.
I sang the first line
of an old familiar song.
The pitch and tone were imperfect
but morning put his arm in mine
and my voice took flight
on a pre-destined path laid for me
by those that knew
this day would come.
