In a couple of days summer will be officially here as our children finish their school year and, you know what that means: We must spend more money in groceries! J
I am sure parents already have summer plans for their kids. From family vacations, special trips to fun parks, family reunions, various summer camps, etc. to parents that can’t afford much…summer is here whether you are ready or not. This perhaps, will be another summer of kids staying at home, spending enormous amount of time watching TV, playing video games, texting, on the internet, etc. Psalm 34: 8 tells us:
“Taste and see that the LORD is good…”
I believe that this summer and every day of our lives there should be nothing more important for us, as His people, than to seek the Lord and develop an intimate relationship with Him. Some of our children have not even tasted that the Lord is good. I feel very deeply in my spirit that this summer should be a summer of going after God with all of our hearts. Summer Camps are ok, activities are ok, outings are ok, but we must use this summer time to really seek the Lord together as a family through family devotionals, prayer, etc.
I am praying for the fire of God to be manifested in my home; I am praying for signs and wonders right in my living room; I am praying for the Holy Spirit to move and for supernatural manifestations. The focus for me this summer, as it refers to my children and this family is, to teach them how to pray. I want the Lord to increase hunger in our hearts for Him. Without prayer at home and in our secret places we are wasting our time with another summer camp, another Bible Camp, another Fun Park Trip, etc.
This nation is about to face terrible times; neither Obama nor Romney has the answer; this is our nation reaping what we have been sowing for so many years now. However, the Lord has something very special for His people. Revival is truly around the corner; but we must pray for God to increase hunger and thirst for HIM in our hearts. We can’t wait until we feel like it; we must go after Him now, for the Bible tells us in James 4:8-10
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”
The best thing we can do for our children and for ourselves this summer is not another trip to Disney World, but to draw closer to Him. If we do so, He promise that he will draw near us. We are spending too much time doing useless activities in our day; we must make special times for the Lord. Let it be our number one goal this summer; lets ask the Lord together to give us hungry and thirsty hearts for HIM.
