Did We Receive it All When We Were Saved? Part 4

“Lets Take a Basic Look at Church History”

8. The Reformation Movement:

“On Halloween of 1517, Luther changed the course of human history when he nailed his 95 Theses to the church door at Wittenberg, accusing the Roman Catholic Church of heresy upon heresy. Many people cite this act as the primary starting point of the Protestant Reformation… though to be sure, John Wycliffe, John Hus, Thomas Linacre, John Colet, and others had already put the life’s work and even their lives on the line for same cause of truth, constructing the foundation of Reform upon which Luther now built. Luther’s action was in great part a response to the selling of indulgences by Johann Tetzel, a Dominican priest. Luther’s charges also directly challenged the position of the clergy in regard to individual salvation. Before long, Luther’s 95 Theses of Contention had been copied and published all over Europe.” (http://www.greatsite.com/timeline-english-bible-history/thomas-linacre.html)

9. The First Great Awakening: 1727-1750
Zinzendorf, Wesley, Whitefield, Jonathan Edwards This was a revival for the people already in the church. This awakening, is said, was the inspiration behind the Independence of the United States. (http://elmertowns.com/books/preview/10_great_revivals/10_Greatest_Revivals_Ever%5BETowns%5D.PDF)

10.The Second Great Awakening: 1780-1810 Cane Ridge This was a movement that reached out to the lost; it was a gigantic movement that brought millions to Christ. Methodist and Baptist really shine during this period.  (http://elmertowns.com/books/preview/10_great_revivals/10_Greatest_Revivals_Ever%5BETowns%5D.PDF)

11.The General or Third Great Awakening: 1830-1840 Charles Finney, Hawaii, Jamaica This was an amazing movement that started in America. This were the times were the church got involved in social issues. This period was the birth of the Social Gospel Movement. The Holiness movement  also emerged during this time. 12.The Twenty’s Century Great Revivals: The 1904 Wales Revival started with a young man by the name of Evan Roberts. He was not a Priest, not officially a pat of the clergy, but he was hungry for God. In 1906 God raised a black man, Bishop William J. Seymour in Los Angeles California and used him in the Mighty Revival of Azusa Street. This revival, without a doubt, was used by God to spread Pentecostalism all over the world. It amazes me that God uses a young man and a black man in these powerful revivals as we started the twenty’s Century. I believe that God was sending us a message that He can use anybody to spread His glory. (http://elmertowns.com/books/preview/10_great_revivals/10_Greatest_Revivals_Ever%5BETowns%5D.PDF)

The world has not seen anything like these great worldwide moves in over a hundred years; but I know that we are due for the greatest one of all! When I study these revivals and these great sacrifices made by brothers and sisters in the past I can’t help but to ask myself: Why are we so satisfied with so little?  Is salvation it? Is that all we need to worry about? Surely it is the most important experience for any human on this earth; but… Did We Receive it All When We Were Saved?
