Today I had a vision: I saw a big table; on one side I saw the Democrats and on the other I saw the Republicans. I saw them arguing, pointing fingers at each other, blaming, as they were unable to come to any agreement. Then I saw the Lord with His arms crossed looking at both sides. The scary thing is that neither side turned to Christ; they did not even acknowledge that He was there waiting to impart wisdom and direction. Then it hit me: both parties, not only the Democratic Party, but the Republican party also have turned their backs on God. The Democratic Party was bold enough to take God’s name out of their convention. But, what about the Republican Party? They claim to be the party of Christians, but are they? Standing against abortion and same-sex marriage does not make you a Christian; there is more to Christianity!
The Democratic Party is placing Government at the center for the solutions of our problems; that is too much Government involvement! The Government exists to protect and to make sure that enough regulations are in place so that we can enjoy our freedom without one citizen violating the other citizen’s rights. The Government was, is and will forever be a terrible administrator. That is the reason why in the last seventy fiscal years we only had twelve surpluses. We just elected a President that, as the direct result of his policies, has given this nation the largest deficits in our nation’s history. For those that love to worship Government, this is what the Bible tells about this institution:
“10 So Samuel told all the words of the Lord to the people who asked him for a king. 11 And he said, “This will be the behavior of the king who will reign over you: He will take your sons and appoint them for his own chariots and to be his horsemen, and some will run before his chariots. 12 He will appoint captains over his thousands and captains over his fifties, will set some to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and some to make his weapons of war and equipment for his chariots. 13 He will take your daughters to be perfumers, cooks, and bakers. 14 And he will take the best of your fields, your vineyards, and your olive groves, and give them to his servants. 15 He will take a tenth of your grain and your vintage, and give it to his officers and servants. 16 And he will take your male servants, your female servants, your finest young men, and your donkeys, and put them to his work. 17 He will take a tenth of your sheep. And you will be his servants. 18 And you will cry out in that day because of your king whom you have chosen for yourselves, and the Lord will not hear you in that day.”
19 Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, “No, but we will have a king over us, 20 that we also may be like all the nations, and that our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our battles.”
21 And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he repeated them in the hearing of the Lord. 22 So the Lord said to Samuel, “Heed their voice, and make them a king.” (First Samuel 8:10-22) NKJV
Notice that the word “take” is mentioned six times. Beloved, at the end of the day, the Government, this man-made system, is only designed to take.
But do we have anything better on the Republican Party side? While the Democrats place their hope in Government programs, the Republican Party places their hope in the individual. That is arrogance! In conservatism I see a man-made religious approach to God. Where is the trust in God? It is all about working, working and working some more and making money. It seems like Capitalism is their religion. The Republican Party, just like the Democrats, only welcome people that think like them; that is why nothing gets done. A Scripture comes to mind when I think about the Republican Party:
“16 Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.” (Romans 12:16) NKJV
We can say that, politically speaking; the Republicans are obviously doing a terrible job in reaching out to Hispanics and Blacks. They are locking themselves in a couple of social issues and ways, just as Democrats do, and in the process nothing is getting done. So what is our hope? The hope is in God and the changes will happen in the church first. When the church gets on fire for God, we will have revival; God’s glory will come down and transform lives, communities, cities, states and the whole nation. Any political party can never achieve the changes needed in this nation, that heart work can only be done by God. He is the one that gets the glory; He is the Almighty and the only one able. But for now, just as Jesus waits with his arms crossed for Republican and Democrats to turn to Him, He is waiting for the church to return to Him also.
An independent thinker with a profound call to see the orthodoxy of the church and passion for Christ manifesting together. Angel was born in Brooklyn, New York in April of 1968, he was raised on the beautiful island of Puerto Rico where he earned his B.S. degree in Sociology with a minor in Education from the Inter American University in San Germán in 1991. That same year he moved to Jacksonville, Florida. After working construction jobs for a year and learning the English language, his first job working with foster-care children in the capacity of youth care worker was with Jacksonville Youth Sanctuary in September of 1992. With JYS he was promoted several times as group home supervisor, legal caseworker, and program director.
While in Jacksonville, Angel studied a couple of martial arts styles. After earning his black belt, he became the founder of Good Fight Ministries as he used martial arts as an instrument to preach the gospel. In 2004 Angel was selected Martial Arts Instructor of the Year for the State of Florida and in 2005 Angel was inducted in the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame where he also received the Christian Spirit Award. In July of 2005 Angel accepted his call to pastor a bilingual church in Winton, NC where he served for a couple of years. Five months later he lost his first wife to cancer in December of that same year. This initiated a deep valley of suffering in his life, a mountain of costly mistakes and the embracing of lifestyles of sin that are well documented through this blog.
In August of 2012 Angel moved to Fairbanks Alaska with his wife Rayette Casiano and six children who are now adults. In Alaska, Angel continued his social work-related career and his ministry of preaching, teaching and writing. Angel is the author of two books, Hope for the divorcee: Forgiving and Moving Forward and 7 Banderas de Esperanza: La Bendición de Yokdzonot. In January 8th of 2020 Angel and his wife moved to Arizona.
