I Am An Old-School Dad

I am an old-school dad; not always right, but always your dad. Not perfect, but never a dead-beat dad.

I will speak to you the first time, get a little louder the second time and by the third time I will be yelling or whooping your butt.

I am an old-school dad, and after God, I am the maximum authority of that home. I don’t believe in throwing you out after you turn 18, but you will contribute to the house and you will respect me as long as you live with me. The day you disrespect me because you feel you are grown, is going to be the day you will pay your own rent and you will start living on your own.

I am an old-school dad; I believe in you doing your part so we don’t live like pigs. So yes, I believe in chores. I believe in chores as a preparation for employment. You will not outwork me, but you will work.

I am an old-school dad and I am not your friend. I will hurt your little manipulative feelings at times, but I trust that later we could be friends. Later, you will treasure what I am trying to teach you today, and later you will realize my love for you, even in the midst of my humanity.

I am an old-school dad; you will not like me at times; but that is ok, because at times, I will not like you either.

Finally, I am an old school dad. God is first for me and then it’s your mom. I love your mom and I love you. I will gladly give my life for your good; but I will always point at my hero, the one that already gave His life for us. He is the only Savior and Lord of lords, Jesus Christ. I could fail and I will fail, but He never will. He is worthy to be called a father; I am still a work in progress, nevertheless your dad, an old-school dad.

Substituting the Anointing

Nothing is a good substitute for the anointing. No degrees, no denomination, letters of recommendation or your circle of influence. You can have all that, some is indeed good for you, but it is only the anointing that breaks the yoke; it is only the anointing that makes our ministries effective. Isaiah 10:27 tells us,

It shall come to pass in that day

That his burden will be taken away from your shoulder,

And his yoke from your neck,

And the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil. (NKJV)

Do you want numbers, big fancy building and prestige or do you want to see lives transformed? People are walking around with strongholds, with pain and burdens that are affecting their daily walk; they are hurting in secret! They go through the routines of life, and they go through the motions; nobody knows what is going on, but they know their hearts are heavy. They need the anointing.

I am not interested in Minister’s licenses, degrees, titles or connections with this or this other ministry. When I walk through this life and people approach me with their problems, they don’t ask me if I am Baptist, Pentecostal, Catholic, etc. They are desperate, they need help and they need answers.

The church is not a social club; the church is a spiritual hospital. The anointing does not give you the ability to be a motivational speaker, but a messenger of the Most High. The anointing is not just the ability to talk about miracles; the anointing makes you and me instruments of miracles. The anointing is not a just knowledge of the Word, but a demonstration of God’s power. The anointing just not teach us the same over and over, the anointing show us the deep mysteries of God. The anointing is not just learning from others, but it is learning to dig your own well, to do your own studies and to allow the Holy Ghost to be your teacher.

How do we have access such anointing?

  • First you must be born again: I don’t understand why ministers are so eager to share their great Biblical knowledge to people that are not save. They sit in churches and Bible studies all around this nation, but they are not saved; there is no fruit. So why are you teaching end-time prophesy or how to live this Christian live to folk that belong to Satan (John 8:44), folks that are unable to see the truth of God?  Give them the gospel; give them an opportunity to repent, to confess Jesus as their Savior and Lord and to believe.

  • Second, you need the Baptism of the Holy Ghost: The Baptism of the Holy Ghost is more than just speaking in tongues; there are other signs that I will not get into right now; but what I want to emphasis is that Jesus told the disciples to wait for this experience before taking their ministries out of Jerusalem. On Acts 1:8 the Bible tells us,

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (NKJV)

Having the power to witness not necessarily means that now you can talk louder; it is the power to handle yourself in this life like a child of God. It is the way you carry yourself that tells sinner that you are different, that there is something about you that is special.

  • Third and most importantly, we must develop a lifestyle of prayer: By the way, prayer is not only talking to God. That is rude! Prayer is talking, listening and meditating on God’s Word. The listening and meditation parts are most important; the are the parts where you hear what God has to say and think deeply about what He is telling you. That is what will bring forth transformation in your life.

You can have all the education in the world, belong to the largest denomination on earth and be the President’s personal friend, but without the anointing it will, essentially be, all about you and about who you represent. “News flash!!!!” You, nor I or any organization, has the ability to change anybody, only Christ can. Let us lift HIM up and HIM only.

And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. John 12:32 (KJV)

Unwillingness to Fellowship

One of the things that did not make sense to me from the beginning of my Christian life was our Sunday morning gatherings. If I missed a few Sundays, I knew somebody was going to call me and throw Hebrews 10:25 at me, “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together…” The teaching is that, in order for us to fulfill this Bible verse, all we have to do is come together on Sundays for a specific, repetitive “order of service”. We will listen to the same worship team, the same style of music, and, at times, the same songs. We will give our tithes and offerings, listen to the message from the same man of God Sunday after Sunday. In some cases, we will get prayed for, and out we go; everybody on their own way to their favorite restaurants or straight home. So, as long as I show up to that service (especially if I make it to the mid-week service) I was all that and a spiritual bag of chips. Even after all these years, this philosophy does not sit well with me.

Our gathering together is way more than coming together for a Sunday morning show. Let’s read this verse in its context,

24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. (NKJV)

  1. In our gatherings we are called to consider one another: This is more than just sitting by each other with chairs looking in the same direction. To consider one another is to pay attention to one another, to study one another and to show care for one another.
  2. That consideration for one another is designed to do two powerful things in the life of a believer:
  3. Stir up Love: The fulfillment of the whole law is love. (Mark 12:30-31)
  4. Promote good works: Faith without works is dead (James 2:17)
  5. In our gatherings we are called to encourage one another.

Notice that when we are told not to forsake our gathering it says nothing about a church service or about listening to the same man or woman preaching the Word to us. That gathering is way more than a Sunday Service. Not that I am teaching against teachers or even coming together on Sundays, but these verses are speaking of “one another”. That “one another” blessing can only take place in true fellowship. John tells us,

But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. John 1:7 (NKJV)

What we do on Sundays has nothing to do with fellowship; in fellowship we share our lives, we eat at each other’s house, we gather around the cross, around God’s Word; the spiritual gifts flow from everybody and the freedom of God’s Spirit moves in our lives. In true fellowship we enjoy each other’s presence; we share in each other’s birthday, we watch the game together, we play together, we enjoy diverse celebrations together, we enjoy cookouts together, etc. Fellowship is what comes natural for true family and friends; how much more we, God’s people.

What we have in many churches are “God bless you” relationships on Sundays with people that are totally disconnected from one another the rest of the week. We do not call each other, we do not visit each other, and we do not help each other. That is because we do not know each other enough to miss each other. We miss our families and our friends, but do we really miss our church family?

I said this many times and I will say this again; until we frequently eat at each other’s dining room tables, we are not family; that’s what families do. Furthermore, our unwillingness to fellowship is an indicator of a deeper spiritual issue. If we walk in the light, our desire to fellowship should be a natural desire. Our refusal to fellowship is then an indicator of our darkness.

The Devil is Scared of Black People in America

There in the pitch-black abyss, swarming with creatures of blood-thirst and the insatiable desire for evil; the Devil proclaimed an emergency meeting. The head demons for each category of sin and evil sat in their places as the Devil hurriedly exclaimed for order. “I heard God speaking his prophetic purpose for black people in the United States and I am concerned” the Devil said. “We must come against it with all we have.” The crowd roared in agreement and tainted joy. The Devil then held his hands behind his back, gliding back and forth with the grace of Angels. His eyes held the intelligence greater than the greatest of men. Every spirit then stood in silence waiting for the Devil to disclose his strategy.

“We will enslave them! We will humiliate them and cause them to be considered less than humans. We will give them derogatory names that they will carry with them for millennia. We will destroy their identities so that they will carry whatever name their masters give them. We will have the white man rape the black woman and destroy the black man’s sense of manhood. We will make slavery a crucial part of the US economy so that many powerful politicians and entrepreneurs will never dare fight against it. We all know that we work best when they do not know I exist. I will teach the black man hatred, and their enemy will be the white man.”

England abolished slavery before America did. Blacks were denied education, participation in the political process and in many cases, religion. The strategy worked to perfection. In 1865, however, slavery was abolished in the United States. With slavery abolished, it seems that blacks will be able to enjoy freedom. But was that freedom really found?

Civil Rights

“We will destroy them even without slavery,” declared the Devil. The killings of blacks continued. The denial of quality education and higher learning was prevalent and socially acceptable. It was important for the Devil to make sure they remained ignorant. “They are free from slavery, but I will cause for their civil rights to be brutally violated. I will cause whites to pass segregation laws and to treat blacks as if they have leprosy; they will put up signs in public places that will read, “No dogs and no blacks.” It will be politically correct to be a racist in the United States of America.”

The denial of political process involvement, the denial of jobs, and so on, was the ticket of the day. Hatred for the white man grew and violence spurred like wild fires. But then…the voice of Martin Luther King was heard loud and clear; a week after his assassination the Civil Right Act was signed by President Lyndon Johnson in 1964.

Soon it was not politically correct to be a racist.

The devil then called for another meeting. He asked, “What are we going to do now?”

A high ranking demon, Demon of Bitterness, interjected, “we will still reject them and make them feel inferior. We will attack their self-esteem. Even as they have greater opportunities, we will attack their minds in such a way that many will not even care to try to go any further in their education, political process involvement and in the business world. We will make them feel as if they are incapable and in need of special help from the government. We will create ghettos and a welfare system. It will make it look like America is finally helping them, but we will make them handicapped. We will raise leaders among them that will spread the victim mentality narrative. We will fill them with anger against whites and make sure they remain bitter. It will still be a society ruled by whites without the open violation of laws.”

“Yes! Yes! And I know exactly how to do this,” responded the Devil. “We will use Hollywood. We will infect their minds and culture through movies and TV shows. People will spend more and more time in front of the TV as we use the TV to spread our teachings. We will make sure all the heroes are white so little black kids grow up without any black heroes. We will create characters such as Superman, Captain America, Batman and many others; while blacks play small unimportant and humiliating roles. The blacks will remain inferior. We will continue to enslave them in their minds. And then I will rise up a select few from their kind to be my personal slaves, who will rise up to be idols. They will portray a new image of the Black Man and a false image of freedom. They will call each other derogatory names and accept a life of mediocrity and ignorance. They will destroy themselves with concepts like YOLO and “Do what thou wilt.” They will make themselves un-hirable, undesirable, non-trainable, and proud. They will begin to see me as their God, and will no longer be a threat to my kingdom. ” All of the demons stood in applause.

Their Hearts

Today, many blacks continue to overcome. Many blacks are financially free and many blacks are highly educated. Not only are blacks involved in the political process, but many blacks hold political office, including our President. Blacks are no longer the first ones to get killed in movies; they have many leading men and leading women.

So the devil called for another meeting, this time he stood secure knowing exactly what to do. “We will increase their hatred against whites and continue to fill their hearts with bitterness. We will give them preachers who will keep them focused on racism issues. We will use a different kind of Uncle Tom; he will not be working for the white man, but he will be working for me directly. I will infect their leadership. I will raise Civil Right Leader that will be blinded to black issues and focused on racism. I will cause sporadic killings of blacks by whites to keep the civil rights leaders active in preserving my narrative that the white man is holding them back. However, the real killing will take place in their own neighborhoods. I will cause them to kill each other. I will cause for black families to be destroyed and increase abortion and jail sentences. I will use their music and entertainment to promote violence and create a lack of reverence for life. They will soon rid the world of themselves” All the demons were amazed at the wisdom of the Devil. They bowed to him and charged into the night, ignited by the commanding presence of their master.

Afterwards, a demon approached the Devil and asked him, what did you hear God say about black people in America? Why do you want to kill them so bad? The Devil looked at him with a hint of fear in his eyes and stormed away in anger without saying a word.

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age,[a] against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV)
