The world is filled with iniquity; that means that the world is filled with evil, wickedness and immorality. Why do you love the world so much? Why do you watch their movies, listen to their music and follow their council?

Even the “good things” that comes out of this world are designed to be a slap in the face to God; an attempt to show that humans do not need Him. The adversary makes sure that the world is blinded concerning the Gospel. The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 4:4,

Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God. (NLT)

Nothing in this world is designed to communicate the gospel in any way, unless is a false gospel; nothing is designed to point people to God for the solution of their problems and, nothing in this world is designed to give God glory. It should not be a surprise that the message of the gospel is not welcome in this secular world.

The Bible has a few things to say about this secular world. 1) They hate us. John 15:18-19 tells us

“If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. (NIV)

There is no way to reconcile this reality; we will never become friends of the world, unless we compromise the Gospel, unless we water down this precious message. However, as long as you stay firm on preaching Jesus as the only way to heaven and, the need for repentance, the world will hate you. That is why when we become friends with the world, we become enemies of God. James 4:4 tells us,

You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. (NIV)

When we pursue friendship with the world we will ignore or compromise the gospel; in doing so, a curse will come upon us.[1]

Jesus himself told us that we are in this world, but we are not of this world.[2] Why are we wasting our time trying to change this world? The world will not change, but people will be transformed as they move from darkness to light through the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That is our number one mission on this earth.[3] 2) The world is under the control of evil. First John 5:19 tells us

“We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.” (NIV)

Beloved, when we love this secular world, the love of God is not in us. There is absolutely nothing to love in this secular system. The world is filled with the evil of Genesis 3 when sin entered humanity through the disobedient of Adam and Eve. The world is filled with the wickedness of Genesis 6 when the fallen angels altered the human race with all iniquity and, the world is filled with the rebellion of the Tower of Babel, where all false religions and secret societies finds their roots. That is why God tells us,

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2 (NIV)

[1] But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! Galatians 1:8 (NIV)

[2] My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. John 17:15-16 (NIV)

[3] Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Mathew 28:19-20
