It does not matter how much cologne or perfume, lotions, or deodorants we put on, without a good shower or a good bath we will end up smelling. Our spirits and our souls are the same.

The world is filled with pollution, not only air pollution, but also spiritual pollution. When we do not take proper care of our spiritual hygiene, we end up smelling horribly.

When we stop praying, stop studying the Word and stop fellowshipping with our brothers and sisters in Christ we start smelling with a funk of depression, frustration and, negative attitudes start stinking up wherever we go. The smell of unbelief spreads like discomposed bodies. Our spiritual smell becomes so bad that we become toxic; we make the people around us sick.

Jesus told his disciples in John 15:3, “Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you.” (ESV) The apostle Paul tells the husbands and every believe a great mystery when he states, “Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,” Ephesians 5:25-26 (ESV)

Beloved, Jesus provided the water, the soup, the toothpaste, the deodorant, the lotions, and everything that is needed for our spiritual hygiene. Our stinky attitude, most of the time, is the direct result of us neglecting our spiritual responsibilities. My brother, my sister… let us take care of our spiritual hygiene. Let us press on in prayer, in the study of God’s Word and the fellowship with one another. Stop with the excuses! Let’s us be a sweet aroma before the Lord and before others.
