Satan has been messing with God’s creation and plan since the beginning starting with the disobedient of Adam and Eve. In Genesis 6 we see Satan messing with our genetics as the fallen angels had sex with women and produced the Nephilim. In Genesis 11 we see the nations betraying God with the rebellion of The Tower of Babel, but in Genesis 12 God called Abram and started a new nation. The call of this nation was well-defined,
Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. 2 And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” Genesis 12:1-3 (ESV)
God did not give up on the nations of the world who betrayed Him; Israel was supposed to evangelize the world, however, they to betrayed God. Moses writes the painful words of this betrayal,
“But Jeshurun grew fat, and kicked;
you grew fat, stout, and sleek;
then he forsook God who made him
and scoffed at the Rock of his salvation.
16 They stirred him to jealousy with strange gods;
with abominations they provoked him to anger.
17 They sacrificed to demons that were no gods,
to gods they had never known,
to new gods that had come recently,
whom your fathers had never dreaded.
18 You were unmindful of the Rock that bore you,
and you forgot the God who gave you birth.
Deuteronomy 32:15-18 (ESV)
Still today God has not given up on Israel and still have not given up on the nations of the world. This time He has call you and I; his church, to evangelize the world through the Great Commission describe in Matthew 28:19-20
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (ESV)
Who can understand that kind of love? Have you ever asked yourself if the church is going to make it? Are we going to go down in the history of humanity as one more rebellion against God? Are we set to be another failure? Is Satan going to have his way with us? Well, at times it looks like the answer to all these questions is yes.
You look at our many divisions, thousands of denominations; you look at the structure of our services and do you see anything that even come close with this obsession with buildings, or this one man show and the overrate worship leader? Is nowhere to be found in the New Testament. What can we say about the prosperity gospel? What can we say about the top music coming out of our services? Have you taken a look at the Elevation, Bethel and Hillsong churches’ true doctrine? What can we say about the many churches that cowered since the Coronavirus? As many as one in every five churches could close permanently in the USA.
It seems that some churches have forgotten that we can’t stop congregating (Hebrews 10:25). I do not see a Coronavirus exception. It seems that we have also forgotten to call the elders to pray for us when we are sick (James 514), better yet what about presenting our spirit, soul, and body blameless in preparation for the coming of the Lord according to First Thessalonians 5:23? Do we know by now who the Coronavirus is mostly killing? Unhealthy, overweigh and old folks! But above all these points, don’t we know that our days are in the hands of the Lord (Psalm 31:15).
There is, without a doubt, a purging taking place in the church; but make no mistake about it, the real church, the born-again believers will get to the other side of all this mess. I don’t know how; it seems like an impossible task to me… but God.
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16:15-19
The devil will not have his way with the church.
