As we continue to focus on the topic at hand, no doubt that the LGBTQIA is one of the hot topics in our society today. I mean, is all around us, it can’t be ignored. You turn on the TV and there it is… two dudes French kissing. Every time you turn around somebody is proudly coming out of the closet and held as heroes for doing so. The LGBTQIA agenda is alive and well in our world today. I have seen famous preachers stumble in secular interviews when ask about this topic. Listen to TD Jakes on this topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5MRhqSK8Ts.
We as Christians should not shy away from giving a Biblical answer, not a political one concerning this topic. We should say what the Bible say about this… period! Let’s start with the Old Testament: Leviticus 18:22 tells us “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.” The word lie here is the Hebrew word šāḵaḇ: This is a verb meaning “…Sexual intercourse, lying with a woman or man (Gen. 19:32–35; Num. 5:13, 19; Judg. 16:1; 2 Sam. 13:14); or an act of sex with an animal, bestiality (Ex. 22:19[18]) that was punishable by death.”[1]
A man having sex with another man and a woman having sex with another woman, is described in the Bible as an abomination. The Hebrew word for abomination is tōʿēḇāh: “This word is primarily understood in the context of the Law. It identifies unclean food (Deut. 14:3); the activity of the idolater (Isa. 41:24); the practice of child sacrifice (Deut. 12:31); intermarriage by the Israelites (Mal. 2:11); the religious activities of the wicked (Prov. 21:27); and homosexual behavior (Lev. 18:22). In a broader sense, the word is used to identify anything offensive (Prov. 8:7).”[2] Is the LGBTQIA community in sin before God? According to Scripture yes, they are. This is not biblically complicated.
The Bible is not silent regarding homosexuality in the Old Testament; we see it in the famous story of Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis 19 and in Judges 19-20. This spirit destroys entire communities and even nations. Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed, in part, because of this homosexual spirit; the Tribe of Benjamin, almost disappear because of this same spirit according to Judges 19-20. A society that accepts this lifestyle as normal will always pay terrifying consequences. On the next article we will deal with homosexuality in the New Testament.
