In a world where everybody is allowed to create their own truth, which at the end, is not really truth, but a lie, it is refreshing to know that one of the main roles of the church should be, to be “… a pillar and buttress of the truth.”[1] We can be confident that we are ministering the truth because God has given us the Scriptures. It is tragic when the church compromised truth.
Jesus testify that the Word is truth (John 17:17). Jesus validated the Old Testament by quoting it and identified it as the Word of God. God also gave us the Apostles to be a part of the authorship of that foundation of truth. Ephesians 2:20 bring this point to a biblical confirmation when it states, “built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.” (NIV)
Why are you looking for truth in the world? Why are you accepting their foolishness? You qualify them because they are rich and famous? Don’t you know that this secular system has plenty of finances and resources? It is expected… is Babylon! Search the Scriptures and trust your life with God’s Word and not in riches, it will do you good and not harm. It was truth in the beginning and is truth now; there is a choice we must make daily,
See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse— 27 the blessing if you obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today; 28 the curse if you disobey the commands of the Lord your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known. Deuteronomy 11:26-28 (NIV)
The church exists to show us the truth, to show us the way of God, to guide us. The church is run by Jesus, and he has given us the Holy Ghost. Jesus said of the Holy Spirit, “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.” John 16:13 (ESV) Oh glory be to His Name! What a privilege!
CNN does not have the truth, Fox News does not have the truth, Hollywood does not have the truth, sport figures do not have the truth, the republicans, nor the democrats, nor the powerful have the truth… the truth has been given to the church, the “…pillar and buttress of the truth.” First Timothy 3:15 (ESV). However, be careful, just like we are in this world, but are not of this world, there are folks who are in the church, who are not of the church. Jude points them out clearly when he states,
Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. 4 For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. Jude 1:3-4 (ESV)
We, as God people, are chosen, but we also need to understand that there are folks who are not chosen for salvation. James speaks about these ungodly folks destined for God’s condemnation; they have an agenda of perverting the grace of God. These folks, who are in the church today used two main weapons: 1) Introduction of false doctrines and 2) Sensuality. The word sensuality here is the word asélgeia; meaning: “Licentious (Lustful/Shameless), brutal. Lasciviousness (Carnality, these are those who sin without shame), debauchery (Corrupt/Immoral), sexual excess, absence of restraint, insatiable desire for pleasure.”[2] Yes… it is hard to imagine that people with these moral characteristics are amongst us; but they are, and we must call them out and fight to maintain the truth amongst us. We must fight to keep the purity of the essence of this wonderful Body called… the Church.
